No time for the January blues…….
January is often a time to get started planning whatever fresh new plan you have for yourself or your business. It looks like everyone is on it this month as the meetings are coming thick and fast.
Angus Food & Drink Network
A bit of good news to follow on from our attempt at bringing the food and drink sector in Dundee together. We may not have quite managed to ‘whet the appetite’ of the city’s restaurants and eateries for a Dundee Food & Drink Network, but some of the work we did helped get Angus businesses ‘asking for a second helping’. On the 13th of January at Letham, 50 engaged and enthusiastic food and drink sector businesses and individuals turned up to discuss the possibility of forming a network in Angus.
The meeting was a success and a group have formed that will start to lead actions on bringing greater recognition of the food produced and served which in turn will hopefully lead to more business for Angus. DAVAA Committee Member, Bruce Sheridan of Forbes of Kingennie, is involved in the group and will keep us briefed on all developments.
Many of the producers present will be involved in the Food & Drink Expo in Forfar, that is happening as part of the Tay Cities Business Month. At the event you’ll be able to discover regional produce from a collective of producers showcasing the best of Tay Cities Region food and drink in one place. This showcase highlights the richness and diversity of the region’s natural larder, giving hoteliers, chefs and food manufacturers/retailers the chance to meet producers and buy high quality, authentic products who pride themselves on the provenance of their produce and opportunities for strengthening local supply chains.
DAVAA Committee Meeting
On the 21st of January the Committee held our monthly meeting to discuss, amongst other things, the upcoming AGM. Carnoustie Golf Hotel & Spa kindly hosted the Association and progress was made in agreeing an agenda for next months AGM. The Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday the 19th of February at 2pm. It will be hosted by DoubleTree by Hilton. Invites will be sent out to members in due course.
Dundee Tourism Action Group Meeting
V&A Dundee was the venue for the quarterly get together of Dundee based tourism businesses. In the always impressive surroundings, the attendees heard from V&A Dundee’s team about the upcoming Mary Quant Exhibition. Scheduled to begin in April it will run till September and loos certain to have a wide appeal that will help bring a steady flow of visitors to Dundee.
