Glenesk Wildlife tours and DAVAA
We were delighted to organise one last familiarisation trip before the summer season began and some of our members were treated to a fantastic trip to the hills on a Glenesk Wildlife Tour.
Run by the Dalhousie Estate in Brechin, the tour offered the chance to be guided on foot and by land rover through the ‘Secret Angus Glens’ with wildlife expert and experienced game keeper, Andy Malcolm.
Our guide shared his extensive knowledge of the flora, fauna and land management as we meandered our way along Glenesk through farmland and up onto moorland. A rich and diverse array of wildlife greeted us as the sun shone down on us fortunate few. Red deer, curlews, lapwings, wheatears, grouse and even a rare sighting of 3 adders made the experience even more memorable.
Many of our guests travel to Scotland to see the rugged, romantic landscapes and in Angus we are fortunate to have some of the most beautiful glens in the land. This Wildlife tour offers an experience you’d struggle to beat anywhere else in Scotland and we can help keep our guests in the area and staying with us longer if we highlight the fact that they don’t have to travel to the Highlands the get the ‘Highland experience’. The Angus glens are very accessible and less than an hour from Dundee, Arbroath and Montrose.
The tours began and ended at the Glenesk Retreat and Folk Museum, Tarfside, Glenesk, Angus, DD9 7YT. Here we were treated to tea, coffee and cake. The Retreat and Folk Museum is community owned and run by the Glenesk Trust. The museum offers an insight into the lives of those who live and have lived on the land in this challenging area of Scotland and the cafe provides great home baking. Another great reason for our guests to visit Glenesk and the surrounding glens.
The event was free to our members.
