DAVAA helps secure World Karate Championship bid

In collaboration with DAVAA, Dundee and Angus Convention Bureau and other organisation in the city we have been successful in securing Dundee as the host city for the 7th World Union of Karate Federations (WUKF) in June 2018. (12th – 17th)

Representative from all stakeholders met with Liviu Crisan, President of the WUKF and Roy O’Kane from Kanzen Karate Scotland to present Dundee’s proposal to host the Championships in 2018.  The Economic impact for the area will be in the region of £10 million with athletes, spectators and organisers staying in hotels in the region, using transport facilities, eating in local restaurants and visiting the regions many attractions. There will be a requirement for in the region of 2000 hotel rooms over the week with Athletes competing daily at Dundee Ice arena.

The success of the BID was due to the collaboration with Accommodation, Transport, Leisure and Councils coming together to offer a joined up proposal for the federation to consider. We now look forward to planning for this event to ensure the stakeholders come together and deliver and event that is a huge success for Dundee and Angus.
