DAVAA Events /Spiegeltent Dundee – Proposal Session
July 20, 2017 @ 10:00 am
You may have read in the Courier or Telegraph about the proposal to test the feasibility of a Spiegeltent in Dundee at the Slessor Gardens.
The proposal is to bring the Edinburgh-based Spiegeltent to Dundee’s Slessor Gardens from the third weekend of November until the end of the year. The first nine days would see the venue used for Dundee Jazz, with events staged within the enclosed space. After the end of the festival, the ‘village’ would be created, which would include outdoor catering and bar outlets and market stalls to create a new festive hub that would operate until Christmas Eve. The venue would then be adapted for use post-Christmas (format to be decided) and for Hogmanay.
The Spiegeltent would be managed by the Rep and made available to partners to promote their activities. Local partners, including performers, musicians, retailers, caterers, etc. would be invited to be part of the event.
Although an event in 2017 would be desirable, current thinking is that this would be on a scale that would require Event Scotland National Event funding and the deadline for 2017 events has now passed. The target date for the first full-scale event is November/December 2018.
An independent consultant has been appointed to lead the feasibility and would very much like to hear our views on the proposal, opportunities that might exist and what we think of the overall vision.
